With 2016 drawing to a near, it's a time to reflect and focus on our goals and aspirations for the coming year. Maybe there is something you'd like to achieve, a place you'd like to visit or something you'd like to try. Whatever it may be, now is the perfect time to jot down those ideas and dreams as we welcome 2017 and a whole host of new adventures and opportunities. I have made a list of resolutions for 2017, but rather than having a very long list (which sometimes can feel like a mammoth task) I have condensed it down into more manageable chunks and therefore more likely to stick to.

During the festive season when all the house is decorated and the fairy lights are twinkling, I have an armchair in the living room or as I call my "snug" is swathed with cosy blankets and Christmas cushions and from here, I can curl up with a good book, watch a movie, write my Christmas cards and generally hibernate keeping topped up with freshly baked mince pies and mugs of hot chocolate sprinkled with marshmallows. It is the most comfortable and cosy armchair. When I'm in my snug, I like to prepare my Christmas evening by stocking up on drinks and nibbles. I'll gather the necessities such as stamps, pens, wrapping paper, gift tags, ribbons and so on then snuggle down with a Christmas movie or listen to carols. It's one of the many ways I enjoy a cosy winter evening. Although the iconic poet John Clare sums up my Christmas evenings (except its a dog, not a cat):

During the winter months, where lipstick is concerned, I tend to reach for darker shades such as deep plums or berry reds pared with a simple eye makeup look or a smoky eye during in the evening. I decided to put this post together showcasing my most reached for lipsticks and hopefully serve as inspiration to try a darker shade of lipstick or perhaps a shade you're undecided about. All lip swatches are taken during natural day light but please bare in mind that shades may vary due to different monitors and screens.

Busy B Christmas Planner | £14.99* (Link).
With Christmas approaching, it is never too early to start preparing and making plans. At such a busy time of the year, it can become stressful with selecting the perfect gifts, writing out cards and baking festive treats however, the key to a smooth and stress-free Christmas is to plan and prepare early which in turn saves time which can be used for relaxing and enjoying the festivities. When it comes to planning for Christmas, I can make lots of lists from food and gifts to Christmas cards and general things to do such as preparing the rooms for our guests and so on but with lots of fiddly bits of paper, they can become muddled or worse: lost.

Castle Howard, York.
Warning - Photo heavy. Please allow time for photos to load.
As the festive season is almost upon us, it's time to welcome our homes to Christmas cheer. Adorn the windows with evergreens, the festive aroma of oranges and cinnamon drift lazily through the home, the sound of cheerful music and Christmas carols and admiring flickering candles by the fireside. Christmas is a magical and heart-warming time of the year; enjoying the seasonal festivities with loved ones and indulging in the delights of wholesome cooking, country walks or cosy evenings playing games. One of my favourite seasonal pursuits is to visit stately homes during the holiday season and revel in the delights of magnificent grandeur and festive décor. I was delighted to be invited along to the awe-inspiring Castle Howard. Situated near York, Castle Howard is one of Britain's finest stately homes. A truly magnificent historic house in the north of England set within 1000 acres of landscaped gardens including lakes, fountains, temples, woodland and a walled garden, a superb example of ambitious and artistic architecture with ornate décor and a 300 year old history of the Howard family woven into the fibers of the stately home.
